Just because this is about math and science does not make me a nerd

Well earlier this evening, I was watching "World News with Charles Gibson" (awesome show!). And I learned something new. We all know that Mount Everest is the highest point on earth relative to sea level. But did you know, that the point on earth that is closest to the heavens is believed to be Mt. Chimborazo in Ecuador. Mount Chimborazo, an inactive volcano, is the reportedly the farthest point from the center of the earth. This is because of the planet Earth's equatorial bulge, a term that explains the bulge at the equator. Earth is an "oblate spheroid." Or an "oblique speroid," which basically means it's fatter around the middle than it's tall. Okay here's a video of that from ABC News.

Since I'm talking about science and math stuff, I might as well tell about something else I've learned that's in that area.

On Wikipedia, there's this article about how .999... non-terminating, is the same as the number 1. Now I always thought .999...non-terminating was just that. The article showed proof, and this one fraction proof went like this:
.333...non-terminating is equal to 1/3. 1/3 multiplied but 3 is equal to
[3 times 1] /[3]. And that equals 1.

I sort of get that but this new idea made me think:

1 divided by 9 is .111...non-terminating, 2 divided by 9 is .222...non-terminating, and so forth. So then 8 divided by 9 is .888...non-terminating, but what is 9 divided by 9? 9 divided by 9 is 1. 9 divided by 9 is 1 (ONE) and not .999...non-terminating!

Now I'm not sure if that idea has been used before; I'm sure it has.

That's it for now.

Later...non-terminating
